New Delhi: In a thought-provoking address on Thursday, India’s Vice-President emphasized the timeless relevance of Kautilya’s principles on democracy and national development. Reflecting on Kautilya’s vision, the Vice-President stated that true democracy must be participatory, and development must follow the same path. He underscored that the essence of a nation’s strength lies in the collective contributions of its citizens.
“Kautilya had one great emphasis, which is still relevant today: democracy has to be participatory; development equally has to be participatory,” the Vice-President remarked. “He laid great emphasis on individuals contributing to national welfare. A nation is defined by decorum, discipline — that is individualistic in nature.”
The Vice-President further quoted Kautilya to reinforce his message, saying, “Just as one wheel alone does not move a cart, administration cannot be accomplished single-handedly.”
