New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has backed the government’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. Speaking to reporters after attending an all-party meeting in New Delhi, Owaisi emphasized the need for decisive action against Pakistan, which he said harbors terrorist organizations.

Owaisi expressed support for the government’s move but raised concerns over the logistical implications of suspending the treaty. “It is very good that the Indus Water Treaty has been suspended, but where will we keep the water?” he questioned. He reiterated that his party would back whatever decision the central government makes, noting that this is not a political issue.

He further highlighted that international law allows India to take strong actions in response to the attack, including a potential air and naval blockade on Pakistan and sanctions on arms sales. “The central government can take action against the nation that shelters terrorist groups,” Owaisi added.

Owaisi also raised concerns about security lapses during the attack at Baisaran meadow, questioning why the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was not deployed in the area and why the quick reaction team took an hour to reach the site. He criticized the attack as being specifically targeted based on religion.
