Patna: Jan Suraaj founder and political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor has issued a strong ultimatum to the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, threatening a large-scale agitation if three major demands aren’t met within a month.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Kishor demanded that the government release a white paper on the caste survey, halt the “corrupt” ongoing land survey, and clarify its position on the promise of allocating three decimals of land to Dalit and Mahadalit families.

“If the NDA government in the state does not accept our three demands, Jan Suraaj will launch a signature campaign in 40,000 revenue villages across Bihar starting May 11,” Kishor announced. “On July 11, we will submit a memorandum to the government after collecting signatures from one crore people. If even then our demands are ignored, we will gherao the Assembly during the next monsoon session of the Vidhan Sabha, which will be the last session before the upcoming assembly polls later this year.”

Kishor particularly targeted the state’s inaction following the caste-based survey findings presented in the Assembly on November 7, 2023. “The Chief Minister had announced that ₹2 lakh would be given as one-time financial support to 94 lakh families earning less than ₹6,000 per month. But not even a single family has received this assistance,” he claimed. “We demand a white paper from the government on this within a month.”

He also raised concerns about “massive corruption” in the ongoing land survey, urging the government to halt the process immediately and conduct an audit.
