New Delhi: In a moment of national pride, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has been ranked 97th among the World’s Best Hospitals in 2024 by Newsweek and Statista. The globally respected survey evaluated over 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries.

This prestigious recognition reinforces AIIMS Delhi’s stature as a beacon of high-quality healthcare, pioneering medical research, and affordable treatment for millions. Established in 1956, the institute has long been celebrated for its state-of-the-art facilities and team of elite medical professionals.

The Newsweek-Statista rankings, now in their sixth edition, are based on key indicators such as clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, hygiene standards, and peer recommendations from healthcare professionals.

Joining AIIMS Delhi on the global list are two other Indian healthcare giants:

Medanta – The Medicity, Gurgaon, placed 146th, is lauded for its advanced technology and excellence in cardiology, oncology, and organ transplants. Founded in 2009, it is now one of the most trusted names in India’s private healthcare sector.

Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, ranked 228th, has gained acclaim for its remarkable work in medical education, research, and specialty care since its establishment in 1962.

The inclusion of these premier Indian hospitals underscores the rising global recognition of India’s healthcare system, showcasing the country’s growing capabilities in delivering world-class medical services.

Meanwhile, in another major healthcare milestone, India is set to install its first indigenous MRI machine at AIIMS Delhi by October 2025. Developed under the Make in India initiative, this 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner is expected to drastically reduce dependency on imports, with nearly 80–85% of such equipment currently being sourced from abroad.

To facilitate this, AIIMS signed an MoU with SAMEER (Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research), a leading R&D lab under the Department of Electronics. The scanner aims to make advanced diagnostics more accessible and affordable to Indian patients.
