New Delhi: In a major political development from Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday announced that three more organisations have officially disassociated themselves from the Hurriyat Conference. The Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League, and the Kashmir Freedom Front are the latest to sever ties with the separatist umbrella group.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Shah termed this as a “prominent demonstration of the people’s trust in the Constitution of India within the valley.” He added, “Modi Ji’s vision for a united and powerful Bharat stands even more bolstered today.”
The move comes as part of a growing trend in the region. According to Shah, 11 such organizations have recently renounced separatist ideologies and expressed their full support for India’s democratic framework. This wave of disassociation is being seen as a key shift in the political narrative of Kashmir.
Back in March, Shah had also highlighted that two other groups—J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal and J&K Tahreek-I-Istiqamat—had chosen to abandon separatism. “Under the Modi government, separatism is breathing its last, and the triumph of unity is echoing across Kashmir,” he had said in a previous post on X.
In another heartfelt gesture, Shah on Monday met the family of Kirti Chakra awardee DSP Humayun Muzammil Bhat, who lost his life in 2023 while fighting terrorists in Kokarnag, Jammu and Kashmir. Sharing pictures of the emotional meeting, Shah wrote on X, “DSP Humayun Muzammil Bhatt of the J&K Police made the ultimate sacrifice during an operation against terrorists in Kokarnag, J&K, in 2023, setting an immortal example of valor and patriotism. Today, I met the martyr’s family in Srinagar and extended my heartfelt condolences.”
The Union Home Minister’s remarks and actions underscore the government’s continuing efforts to integrate Kashmir into the national mainstream while honouring those who have laid down their lives for the country.
