Mumbai: Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Saturday failed to appear before the Mumbai Police for the third time in connection with a case filed against him for allegedly referring to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “traitor.”

The case stems from a complaint filed by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, who alleged that Kamra made defamatory remarks against Shinde during one of his comedy shows. The controversy escalated after Kamra released a video online mocking Shinde over the split in the Shiv Sena.

The situation turned tense on March 23, when Shiv Sena workers reportedly ransacked the studio and the hotel where Kamra had performed, reacting to the comedian’s jibe.

Earlier this week, a team from Khar police visited Kamra’s residence in Mahim after he failed to respond to the second police notice. Despite being summoned three times, the comedian has not appeared for questioning.
