New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the deadly earthquake in Myanmar, which has claimed over 1,000 lives. Taking to X, he stated, “Spoke with Senior General H.E. Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar. Conveyed our deep condolences at the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake.”

In response to the tragedy, India has initiated ‘Operation Brahma’, a major relief mission under the Act East policy. On Saturday, India dispatched over 15 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including tents, food packets, hygiene kits, medicines, and generators, to assist the affected communities.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed that the first tranche of relief had reached Yangon Airport. The Indian Air Force transported the aid via a C-130J aircraft from Air Force Station Hindon. “India stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar in this difficult hour,” PM Modi assured.
