Mumbai: An Air India flight bound for New York was forced to turn back mid-air on Monday morning following a bomb threat, sources said. The Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, carrying more than 320 passengers, landed safely in Mumbai at 10:25 AM (local time), where it is undergoing mandatory security checks.
According to new reports, a bomb threat note was discovered in one of the aircraft’s restrooms, prompting immediate safety protocols. “A potential security threat was detected mid-flight on AI119 operating Mumbai-New York (JFK) today, 10 March 2025. After following the necessary protocols, the flight air-returned to Mumbai, in the interest of the safety and security of all on board,” Air India said in an official statement.
Authorities have launched a thorough investigation, and the airline has assured full cooperation with security agencies. Meanwhile, the flight has been rescheduled to depart at 5:00 AM on March 11.
All passengers have been provided hotel accommodations, meals, and assistance, the airline confirmed. “Our colleagues on the ground are making sure to minimize the inconvenience caused to our passengers by this disruption. As always, Air India accords the highest priority to the safety of passengers and crew,” the spokesperson added.
