Pune Police have arrested Dattatray Ramdas Gade, the prime accused in the brutal rape case at Swargate bus station, following an intensive search operation using drones and dog squads.

Gade, a repeat offender with multiple cases of theft, robbery, and chain-snatching in Pune and Ahilyanagar, was apprehended on Friday after evading capture for two days. The 26-year-old survivor, a medical professional, was allegedly lured into an empty Shiv Shahi AC bus at Swargate depot under false pretenses and sexually assaulted.

Massive Police Operation Leads to Arrest

The Pune City and Rural Police deployed over 100 officers, forming 13 special teams to track down Gade in Shirur tehsil’s Gunat village. Authorities searched sugarcane fields, villages, and isolated locations using advanced surveillance equipment.

Crime That Shocked Pune

The horrifying incident occurred early Tuesday morning when the survivor was waiting for a Phaltan-bound bus at Swargate depot. Gade, posing as a helpful commuter, convinced her that her bus was at another platform and led her to a dark, unoccupied bus, where he brutally assaulted her.
