CM MK Stalin Calls All-Party Meeting on March 5 Over Delimitation, Warns Tamil Nadu Could Lose 8 MPs

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced an all-party meeting on March 5 to address the contentious issue of parliamentary constituency delimitation, warning that the state could lose eight MPs due to the realignment.

Speaking after a cabinet meeting at the secretariat on Tuesday, Stalin asserted that Tamil Nadu, currently represented by 39 MPs in the Lok Sabha, faces a “dangerous situation” where its representation could be slashed to 31 due to delimitation based on population levels.

“Tamil Nadu has led the way in population control through family planning and women’s empowerment. However, if parliamentary seats are allocated purely based on population, our representation will decrease while states with higher populations will gain more MPs. This is a direct attack on South India’s voice in national politics,” Stalin stated.

Stalin emphasized that Tamil Nadu has no choice but to protest against the delimitation process and has invited all 40 political parties registered with the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the state to participate in the upcoming discussion.

Highlighting the potential impact, Stalin warned that a reduced number of MPs would weaken Tamil Nadu’s ability to influence key national policies, including opposition to NEET, the National Education Policy (NEP), and fair allocation of central funds.

“Only if we have MPs can we effectively fight against NEET, NEP, and demand rightful funds for Tamil Nadu. This is not just about political parties—it is about the future of our state. I urge all parties to stand united against this unfair delimitation process,” he declared.
