Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led Mahayuti government on Sunday, accusing it of shielding corrupt ministers and distorting Hindutva for political gains. Addressing a gathering, Thackeray questioned whether BJP’s version of Hindutva involved protecting Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dhananjay Munde, who have been embroiled in controversies.
“Is BJP’s Hindutva about safeguarding the corrupt? Is shielding those responsible for the collapse of New India Bank their definition of nationalism?” Thackeray asked, taking a direct swipe at the ruling coalition. He criticized the government for its alleged failure in governance and claimed that the country was witnessing an era of chaos.
Speaking on Hindutva, Thackeray said, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj never preached hatred against other religions. Those distorting Hindutva for political benefits must be exposed. I can show examples of their opportunistic love for Muslims during elections.”
In a significant political development, Ahilyanagar district Congress president Kiran Kale, along with his supporters, joined Shiv Sena (UBT) at the event. Thackeray formally inducted Kale into the party by tying the symbolic ‘Shivbandhan’ on his wrist and handing over the Mashaal, the party’s election symbol.
“This is not about going against the tide but about steering a misguided flow in the right direction,” Thackeray said while welcoming Kale.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, deputy leader Sajan Pachpute, and district contact chief MLA Sunil Shinde were present at the event. Kale, after joining the party, pledged his commitment to the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray and the late Anil Rathod.
“We will work towards resolving the city’s issues and strengthening the party under Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership. Some people are wearing a mask of fake Hindutva, but Shiv Sainiks will expose their reality and show what true Hindutva means,” Kale asserted.
