Durg: A 31-year-old man, Aakash Kailash Kannojia, suspected of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, was detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh. The incident occurred during an attempted robbery at Khan’s 12th-floor residence in Mumbai’s Bandra area early Thursday morning. The actor, 54, sustained multiple injuries and is currently recovering under medical care.
Kannojia was traveling aboard the Jnaneshwari Express, which operates between Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Kolkata Shalimar. Mumbai Police, tracking the suspect’s movements through mobile tower data, alerted the RPF at around 12:30 PM. They provided a photograph to help identify Kannojia.
Efforts to locate the suspect initially began at Rajnandgaon station but were unsuccessful. Two teams were then deployed at Durg railway station, where the suspect was successfully detained after being positively identified. Kannojia was traveling in the general class compartment of the train, located just behind the engine.
The suspect was taken to the RPF post at Durg, and the Mumbai Police have been notified. A team from Mumbai is expected to arrive in Raipur later today before proceeding to Durg to take Kannojia into custody for further investigation.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to Saif Ali Khan’s prominence in the entertainment industry. His family has expressed gratitude for the support they have received, while authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.
