New Delhi: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has announced Shifaur Rehman as its candidate for the Okhla constituency in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Rehman, who is currently incarcerated, has been accused in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots.
Rehman will be contesting the election against the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan, who is seeking re-election from the seat. The decision to field Rehman as the party’s candidate has sparked controversy, given his involvement in the riots that rocked Delhi in February 2020.
