New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to announce the schedule for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections today at 2 PM. A press conference will be held where the poll panel will reveal key dates for the election process.

The current term of the 70-member Delhi Assembly will end on February 23, making the announcement crucial for the political landscape of the national capital. In 2020, the election schedule was announced on January 6, with polling held on February 8 and votes counted on February 11. It is expected that the 2025 elections will follow a similar timeline.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is aiming for a third consecutive term in office, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is determined to wrest control of Delhi. The Congress Party, which failed to win a single seat in the last two elections, is gearing up for a strong challenge, hoping for a surprise victory.

In the 2015 and 2020 elections, AAP achieved a commanding win, securing 67 and 62 seats, respectively, while the BJP was relegated to single-digit figures. Congress, which had ruled Delhi for 15 years prior to AAP’s rise, failed to open its account both times.

While Congress and AAP contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together as part of the INDIA bloc, the two parties will be competing separately in the 2025 Assembly elections, further intensifying the political battle for Delhi.
