Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah is expected to step down amid leadership change discussions in the state.

Bengaluru :A proposal to name a road in Mysuru after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sparked a controversy, with the opposition party Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) strongly criticizing the move. The Mysuru City Corporation has suggested renaming the KRS Road to “Siddaramaiah Arogya Marg” in honor of the Chief Minister, but JD(S) has accused Siddaramaiah of corruption and raised concerns over the motivations behind the decision.

In a post on the social media platform X, the JD(S) stated that the Chief Minister, who is facing trial in court, should not be honored in this way. The party referred to him as “accused A1” in the case involving the illegal acquisition of land in Muda, accusing him of cheating the system. JD(S) also took issue with the fact that the Mysuru City Corporation is currently being run by appointed officials rather than an elected board, alleging that the road renaming was a political favor in exchange for support.

JD(S) condemned the decision, calling it politically motivated and an insult to the historic city of Mysuru and the state of Karnataka. The party claimed that naming a road after a leader accused of corruption was not only an affront to the city’s legacy but also to the people of the state. JD(S) emphasized that Siddaramaiah’s alleged misuse of power had tarnished his reputation, and honoring him with such a gesture was inappropriate.

The controversy over the proposed road renaming highlights the ongoing tensions in Karnataka’s political landscape. As the debate intensifies, it remains to be seen whether the proposal will be reconsidered or if the controversy will continue to overshadow the decision.
