Kolkata: In a stunning development in the RG Kar Hospital case, the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report has contradicted earlier claims of rape and murder, stating that no evidence suggests the seminar room was the crime scene. The revelation casts doubt on the initial narrative surrounding the death of a junior doctor, whose body was found on August 9 in the seminar room of the hospital’s fourth floor.
The CFSL report, now submitted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has found no signs of a scuffle or assault in the seminar room where the victim’s body was discovered. These findings challenge the widely reported allegation that the doctor was raped and killed by civic volunteer Sanjay Roy during the night of August 9-10.
On August 10, the body of the trainee doctor was recovered from the hospital’s chest department auditorium. Initial reports alleged a brutal assault, leading to widespread outrage and intense scrutiny of hospital authorities. The case took a dramatic turn when the then-principal of RG Kar Hospital, Ghosh, came under the scanner for alleged delays in the investigation. Ghosh subsequently resigned from his position on August 12, amid public backlash and allegations of financial irregularities during his tenure.
Amidst the mounting controversy, the Calcutta High Court ordered an independent probe into the case, assigning the investigation to the CBI. Alongside the forensic findings, the court also directed an inquiry into financial discrepancies within the hospital, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
