Delhi witnessed two shocking incidents of violence within 24 hours, raising concerns about the city’s law and order situation. In Shahdara, a 52-year-old businessman, Sunil Jain, was shot dead on Saturday morning by two bike-borne assailants. The attack occurred as Jain was returning home on his scooter after a morning walk at the Yamuna Sports Complex. According to police officials, the assailants fired seven to eight rounds at Jain. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Jain, a resident of Krishna Nagar, owned a utensils business. While his family stated that he had no known enmity with anyone, the police are investigating all angles. The suspects remain at large. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shahdara, confirmed the involvement of the crime team in the investigation, stating, “The crime team has reached the spot. Further investigation is underway.”
In a separate incident on Friday night, a fight over the use of a common toilet in Delhi’s Govindpuri area turned deadly. A man named Bikham Singh attacked his neighbors with a kitchen knife, injuring three people. One of the victims, identified as Sudheer, later succumbed to his injuries. The fight reportedly started over flushing the shared toilet. The accused has been taken into custody, and police are further investigating the matter.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing it of failing to ensure public safety in the national capital. “After the firing in Vishwas Nagar, now news of stabbing is coming from Govindpuri. Under the BJP rule, criminals have become completely fearless,” AAP stated on X (formerly Twitter). These incidents come at a crucial time, with Delhi gearing up for its upcoming Assembly elections. The spate of violent crimes has intensified political debates over the city’s governance and law enforcement.
