Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and member of the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was shot at in Bandra, Mumbai, on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at the office of his son Zeeshan Siddique, MLA from Bandra East. Three bullets were fired at Mr. Siddique, and he was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.

The 68-year-old leader, known for his long political career, was a three-time MLA from Bandra West and was closely associated with the Congress party for 48 years before quitting in February to join Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction. His son, Zeeshan Siddique, was expelled from the Congress in August, further cementing the family’s shift in political alignment.

The shooting has sent shockwaves across political circles, coming just months ahead of the crucial Maharashtra Assembly elections, expected later this year.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack, and further details are awaited.
