Close Associate of Hafiz Saeed Succumbs to Gunshot Wounds, Six Years After Acquittal
In a shocking development, Amir Sarfaraz Tamba, a prime suspect in the brutal murder of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Lahore in 2013, met a violent end himself as unidentified assailants gunned him down in the streets of the Pakistani city. Tamba, known for his close ties to 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed, fell victim to a targeted attack by bike-borne assailants in Lahore’s Islampura area.
According to media reports, Tamba was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after sustaining gunshot wounds in the ambush. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries, marking a grim conclusion to his tumultuous life marked by accusations of involvement in heinous crimes.
The killing of Tamba comes six years after he and his associate Mudassar were acquitted by a Pakistani court due to purported ‘lack of evidence’, a decision that drew criticism and skepticism from many quarters. The acquittal, following a trial in which all witnesses turned hostile, underscored the challenges and complexities of pursuing justice in cases involving high-profile individuals.
The incident reignites memories of the tragic fate suffered by Sarabjit Singh, the Indian prisoner whose life ended in a horrific assault within the confines of Lahore’s high-security Kot Lakhpat Jail. Singh, a resident of Bhikhiwind in Punjab, was wrongly accused of involvement in bomb blasts in Pakistan’s Punjab province in 1990, a claim vehemently denied by Indian authorities.
Despite fervent appeals for clemency and protests against his unjust incarceration, Singh’s plight only garnered widespread attention after the brutal attack that ultimately claimed his life. His sister, Dalbir Kaur, emerged as a tireless advocate for justice, relentlessly campaigning for her brother’s release and maintaining his innocence throughout his ordeal.
Tragically, Kaur’s fight for justice came to an untimely end with her passing in June 2022, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Her efforts, culminating in international attention and support, served as a testament to the enduring bond between siblings and the quest for truth and justice.
