Chandrapur, Maharashtra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a frontal assault on the Congress party during an election rally in Chandrapur on Monday, dubbing it the “source of all problems” in the country. Employing a popular Marathi adage, Modi likened the grand old party to a “bitter gourd” that can never be sweet, no matter what.
“Bitter gourd can never be sweet even if mixed with ghee or sugar. It also applies to Congress. They can never mend their ways,” the PM remarked. He accused Congress of resorting to divisive “divide and rule” tactics due to eroding public support over their alleged misdeeds.
Slamming the Congress manifesto, Modi claimed it bore a “Muslim League imprint” with divisive language. “One of their MPs is even demanding the division of India,” he stated, without naming anyone.
The Prime Minister also cornered Congress over the protracted Ram Janmabhoomi dispute, questioning which party delayed the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and doubted the existence of Lord Ram.
“Who was responsible for the delay in Ayodhya’s Ram Temple construction? The leaders of which party questioned Lord Ram’s existence? Which party didn’t attend the Ram Temple ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony?” Modi asked rhetorically.
Framing the 2024 Lok Sabha polls as a choice between stability and instability, the PM urged voters to re-elect his government for continuity of development. Ahead of the Navratri festival starting Tuesday, Modi extended greetings to citizens.
The high-octane rally displayed Modi’s intent to adopt an aggressive campaign strategy against his principal opposition, the Congress, in the crucial general elections scheduled between April 19 and June 1, 2024.
