Former minister Nawab Malik, a prominent figure in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has been admitted to Criticare Center Hospital in Kurla as his health suddenly deteriorated. The specific reason for his hospitalization has not yet been disclosed, but he is currently undergoing treatment.
Nawab Malik, known for his significant role in the Mahavikas Aghadi government as a minister, recently extended support to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar after the latter’s rebellion. Malik had been released from prison a few months ago and has since been relatively absent from public events. News of his health condition surfaced after his admission to the hospital.
In 2022, Nawab Malik was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Money Laundering Act in the Gowawala compound case and had remained in jail until August 2023 when he was granted conditional bail, citing health reasons. Malik gained attention during the Cruise drug scandal, where he made serious allegations against Sameer Wankhede, the then Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in connection with the case involving actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son.
Following his release from jail, Nawab Malik found himself amidst a divided NCP, with speculation rife about which faction he would align with. Initially adopting a neutral stance, he later decided to throw his support behind the Ajit Pawar faction and remains associated with it at present.
In a separate incident, NCP leader Dilip Valse Patil recently suffered an accident, fracturing his left femur and left wrist after falling on the stairs of his house on March 27. Valse Patil, also a member of Ajit Pawar’s faction, received inquiries about his condition from MP Sharad Pawar upon learning of the accident, indicating solidarity within the party despite internal divisions.
The hospitalization of Nawab Malik underscores the importance of maintaining health and well-being, particularly for public figures involved in the political sphere. As he undergoes treatment, the NCP and its supporters await updates on his condition, hoping for a speedy recovery.
