Maharashtra Lok Sabha Elections: NCP Gets 6 Seats with ‘Rules & Conditions’ in Mahayuti Group

Amidst the political maneuvering and alliance negotiations in Maharashtra ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has reportedly made an offer of six seats to the NCP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in the Mahayuti alliance. However, this offer comes with certain conditions that have stirred discontent within the NCP ranks and have left the discussions on seat allocation unresolved.

According to reports, the BJP’s proposal includes fielding its candidates on two seats under the NCP’s election symbol, with one candidate contesting under their own party symbol. This arrangement has led to hesitation and reluctance from the NCP leadership, which had anticipated contesting on at least nine Lok Sabha seats.

The BJP’s conditions for allocating seats to the NCP include earmarking constituencies such as Baramati, Raigad, Shirur, Parbhani, Satara, and Osmanabad. However, for the Satara and Osmanabad constituencies, the BJP insists on fielding its own candidates – Udayanraje Bhosale and former IAS officer Pravin Pardeshi, respectively.

While the Parbhani constituency falls under the NCP’s quota, Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP) chief Mahadev Jankar, an ally of the ruling alliance, is set to contest independently under his party symbol.

In another significant development, Shiv Sena leader Vijay Shivtare, who had previously announced his intention to contest independently from the Baramati constituency, recently held discussions with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. Following this meeting, Shivtare is expected to unveil his future plans during an upcoming press conference.

This meeting comes in the wake of a stern warning issued by the NCP to the Mahayuti alliance, indicating a potential withdrawal unless the Shiv Sena took action against Shivtare for his verbal attacks targeting Ajit Pawar.

As the political landscape evolves in Maharashtra, with negotiations and alliances taking shape, the stage is set for a dynamic and closely contested Lok Sabha election. Maharashtra will conduct its polls across five phases, with results expected to be announced on June 4, marking a crucial milestone in the state’s political trajectory.
