MK Stalin’s DMK Unveils Manifesto for Lok Sabha Polls: Vows Statehood for Puducherry and NEET Ban

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, accompanied by MP Kanimozhi and other party leaders, revealed the highly anticipated DMK manifesto for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Chennai on Wednesday. The event was marked by the party’s commitment to various progressive agendas and key promises aimed at transforming the socio-political landscape.

One of the significant highlights of the manifesto was the assurance of statehood for Puducherry, reflecting the DMK’s dedication to regional empowerment. Additionally, the party pledged to ban the controversial National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), addressing concerns surrounding medical education access.

In a bid to reinforce democratic principles, the DMK advocated for reforms regarding the appointment of governors, suggesting that appointments should be made in consultation with the respective state’s chief minister until the office of governor is abolished.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister MK Stalin emphasized the party’s legacy of manifesto adherence and its commitment to fulfilling promises made to the electorate. He reiterated the importance of incorporating public feedback into the manifesto, ensuring its alignment with the aspirations of the people. Criticizing the incumbent BJP government, Stalin highlighted the alleged failure to deliver on electoral promises, contrasting it with the DMK’s track record of governance.

MP Kanimozhi echoed Stalin’s sentiments, underlining the significance of the DMK manifesto in shaping the party’s vision for inclusive governance. Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead the manifesto committee, she underscored the transformative impact of the Dravidian model of governance in Tamil Nadu and expressed confidence in extending its principles nationwide.

Among the notable promises outlined in the manifesto, the DMK vowed to resist the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and Uniform Civil Code (UCC), asserting its stance on safeguarding secular principles. Additionally, the party proposed amendments to Article 361, which grants immunity from criminal proceedings to governors, signaling a push for institutional reforms.

Furthermore, the manifesto pledged to elevate the ancient Tamil scripture Thirukural to the status of a ‘national book,’ highlighting the party’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and promoting linguistic diversity.

With the unveiling of its comprehensive manifesto, the DMK aims to galvanize support and mobilize voters across Tamil Nadu and beyond, envisioning a future guided by principles of social justice, regional autonomy, and inclusive development.
