The initiative marks a significant shift towards prioritizing public spaces and green infrastructure in the heart of Mumbai. The Mahalakshmi Race Course, long synonymous with horse racing and exclusive events, will undergo a transformative makeover to emerge as a vibrant hub for leisure and recreation accessible to all.
Under the auspices of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, the development of the Mumbai Central Park will breathe new life into the sprawling expanse of the Race Course, offering residents and visitors alike a world-class urban oasis. In addition to the development of the Mumbai Central Park, the Cabinet meeting also addressed matters pertaining to the lease agreement of land at the Mahalakshmi Race Course. The renewal of lease agreements for portions of the Race Course land, including agreements with the Royal Western India Turf Club Ltd., was approved, ensuring the seamless continuation of operations while facilitating the transformation of the Race Course into a public green space.
Furthermore, the applicability of ancillary provisions, as per a Government Decision dated June 23, 2017, has been extended to the Mahalakshmi Race Course and similar land parcels within the Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction. This decision underscores the government’s commitment to streamlining regulations and governance frameworks to facilitate the effective implementation of urban development initiatives across the city.
As Mumbai continues to evolve and grow, initiatives like the development of the Mumbai Central Park at the Mahalakshmi Race Course exemplify the government’s proactive approach towards creating sustainable, inclusive, and livable urban environments. With its blend of modern amenities, natural beauty, and accessibility, the Mumbai Central Park is poised to become a cherished landmark and a testament to Mumbai’s commitment to progress and prosperity.
