In the early hours of Thursday, a horrifying accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district has left at least 14 people dead and 21 others injured. The tragic incident unfolded under the jurisdiction of the Shahpura police station when a pick-up vehicle carrying passengers overturned, reportedly due to the driver losing control.
The victims, who were returning from a “godh bharai” ceremony, found themselves in the midst of a nightmare as the vehicle veered off course near Badjhar Ghat around 1:30 am, leading to the fatal overturn.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav swiftly responded to the calamity, announcing a compensation of Rs four lakh for the families of the deceased. Additionally, he directed the local administration to ensure prompt medical treatment for the injured. Cabinet Minister Sampatiya Uikey was instructed to rush to the accident site in Dindori to oversee rescue operations, demonstrating the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of the tragedy.
In a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Mohan Yadav expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives, extending condolences to the bereaved families. “He has prayed to God to grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the family members to bear this thunderbolt,” the CMO’s post on X (formerly Twitter) conveyed in Hindi. The chief minister emphasized the provision of financial assistance and medical care for the injured, highlighting the government’s concerted efforts to support those affected by the tragedy.
The victims, who had been participating in a ceremony in Amhai Devri village, were met with tragedy on their journey back home. Prompt response from local authorities, including the district collector and superintendent of police, ensured immediate assistance to the victims, underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts in times of crisis.
