Renowned Indian singer Pankaj Udhas, celebrated for his iconic song “Chitthi Aayee Hai,” revealed that he initially ghosted the producer of the song due to his fear of acting. It was his elder brother who intervened to resolve the situation.
In an interview with Lehren, Udhas disclosed that Salim Khan, Mahesh Bhatt Sahab, and Rajendra Kumar considered him for the song, believing it required a renowned singer rather than an actor. Initially hesitant, Udhas expressed his reluctance to the producer, fearing his lack of acting skills.
Recalling the incident, Udhas shared, “When this film was being made, I was considered for this particular song. I got scared because I never was cut out to be an actor in the first place.” After failing to respond to the producer’s initial approach, the situation escalated, leading to the producer expressing frustration.
Subsequently, Udhas’s elder brother, Manhar Udhas, intervened, urging him to clarify his stance with the producer. Following the conversation, Udhas mustered the courage to reach out to the producer and express his reservations about acting in the film. To his surprise, the producer clarified that he wanted Udhas to contribute to the film as himself, not as an actor.
Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the film “Naam” featured acclaimed actors such as Nutan, Sanjay Dutt, Kumar Gaurav, and Poonam Dhillon. Udhas’s eventual contribution to the film’s soundtrack with “Chitthi Aayee Hai” became one of the most cherished moments in his illustrious career.
The incident sheds light on Udhas’s humility and honesty in navigating the complexities of the entertainment industry, ultimately leading to the creation of a timeless musical masterpiece.
