The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an advisory ahead of the class 10th and 12th board examinations, scheduled to commence on February 15. With exams set to begin at 10:30 am, students have been instructed to report at their respective centres by 10:00 am.
In light of potential delays due to traffic congestion, particularly amid the ongoing farmers’ protest, students in Delhi-NCR have been advised to leave for their examination centres early. The CBSE has recommended utilizing metro train services, which are reportedly operating smoothly, as a reliable mode of transportation.
The advisory stated, “Due to the prevailing situation in Delhi, it is expected that there will be traffic-related problems which may cause delay in reaching the examination centre.”
Traffic disruptions across Delhi’s border regions were witnessed on the second day of the protest due to blockades set up by security forces to prevent farmers from marching into the national capital. On key routes like the Grand Trunk Road, vehicles were diverted through side roads for the last 20 km. Multiple layers of barricades, concrete blocks, iron nails, and container walls have been installed at the city’s border points – Ghazipur, Singhu, and Tikri – to thwart the farmers’ march.
The advisory further advised, “Therefore all students are advised to leave their homes early so that they can reach on time as per the instructions issued by CBSE. It is advisable to use metro services to reach the examination centres, which are running smoothly.”
Residents residing near Delhi’s Tikri and Singhu borders have expressed concerns over the blockades and traffic situation, particularly regarding how children will reach exam centres. Compounding their worries, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called for a ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Friday in support of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ agitation.
CBSE students across India and other countries have also been advised to reach the examination centre before 10:00 am, considering local conditions such as traffic, weather, and distance.
“Only those students will be allowed to enter the examination centre by 10:00 am. After this, no student will be allowed,” the advisory emphasized.
This year, more than 39 lakh students from India and abroad are expected to appear for the board exams, with Delhi alone hosting 5,80,192 students at 877 examination centres.
