In a dramatic turn of events, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the filing of a criminal case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following a clash between Congress workers and police on the outskirts of Guwahati. The clash occurred after the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi was denied permission to enter the city limits, leading to protests and confrontations with the police.

The Congress workers, breaking barricades, engaged in a tussle with the police, prompting forceful measures to halt their advance. Later, Rahul Gandhi addressed his supporters on the outskirts, praising them as “babbar sher” (lions) who, despite breaking barricades, pledged not to break the law.

Responding to the incident, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi and Congress cadres of employing “naxalite tactics” and engaging in “unruly behavior.” He took to Twitter, announcing his directive for a criminal case against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly provoking the crowd.

In a series of tweets, Sarma criticized the Congress leader’s actions, stating that such tactics were alien to Assamese culture and emphasizing that Assam is a peaceful state. He instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to register a case against Rahul Gandhi and cited footage posted on social media as evidence.

Rahul Gandhi, in response, labeled the Chief Minister’s actions as “intimidation tactics” that would ultimately benefit the Congress party’s yatra. He stated that the controversy surrounding the yatra was gaining public attention, and the Chief Minister’s actions were inadvertently aiding the cause.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which faced disruptions in Assam, is part of the Congress party’s outreach program. Despite roadblocks and clashes, Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence that the message of Nyay (justice) was reaching the people.

The situation remains tense as political tensions escalate, and the legal aftermath of the clash unfolds in Assam.
