In a pivotal decision made during the BJP Legislature Party meeting, R Ashoka has been appointed as the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. This significant move follows an extensive deliberation held on Friday within the Bharatiya Janata Party ranks.

Reacting to his new designation, R Ashoka expressed gratitude, stating, “I am honored by the faith my party, PM Modi, Amit Shah, Nadda, General Secretary Santhosh, and all our MLAs have placed in me by electing me as LoP of Karnataka Assembly. The Congress, amidst infighting, has neglected the welfare of the poor and farmers in the last 6 months. Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar’s ongoing tussle over the CM post is evident.”

The speculation surrounding potential contenders for the position included names such as Sunil Kumar, Ashwath Narayan, and Araga Jnanendra before R Ashoka’s appointment.

However, the delayed appointment of the Leader of Opposition drew criticism from the ruling Congress, highlighting the BJP’s prolonged period before finalizing the key role, months after the state elections.

Former CM Basavaraj Bommai expressed satisfaction with the selection, emphasizing, “It was a unanimous choice. He is a senior leader. I congratulate him. I am very happy.”

R Ashoka’s appointment marks a significant political development in Karnataka, setting the stage for his leadership role in the state’s legislative proceedings.
