In light of the recent modification in the Bombay High Court’s order regarding Diwali firecracker timings, Mumbai’s civic chief, Iqbal Chahal, issued a heartfelt appeal to the citizens on Friday. The court, on November 10, revised its earlier directive and restricted the bursting of firecrackers to a specific two-hour window, from 8 pm to 10 pm, during the festival.

In a video message, Chahal implored the residents of Mumbai to abide by the court’s revised guidelines and refrain from bursting firecrackers outside the designated time frame. The civic chief emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in mitigating air and noise pollution, urging citizens to celebrate the festival responsibly.

“I request that you all, with folded hands, follow the court’s directive and do not burst the crackers that will add to the air and noise pollution,” Chahal said, emphasizing the need for a mindful and environmentally conscious celebration of Diwali.

The revised directive comes as part of ongoing efforts to address environmental concerns associated with the festive season, acknowledging the delicate balance between celebrating cultural traditions and preserving the well-being of the environment. The civic chief’s appeal reflects a shared responsibility in ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly Diwali celebration in Mumbai.
