Naseem Khan, a prominent Congress leader and former Maharashtra minister, has made a fervent appeal to the Indian government, calling for the immediate suspension of bilateral trade with Israel in response to the tragic loss of innocent lives in the Gaza Strip. Khan, currently serving as the Working President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, conveyed his request to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a formal letter, underscoring India’s historical relationship with Palestine.

Khan’s plea comes in the wake of the recent bombing of the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, an incident that has resulted in a significant loss of life.

The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has claimed the lives of over 3,000 individuals, with more than 10,000 people sustaining injuries, as reported by Khan.

“Throughout India’s history, leaders such as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Dr. Manmohan Singh have maintained a strong and supportive relationship with the leadership and people of Palestine, consistently offering humanitarian assistance in times of need,” Khan stated.

Khan also emphasized India’s historical ties with key Palestinian figures, including the Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman and Palestinian National Authority Chairman, Yasser Arafat.

Expressing deep concern over the Israeli military’s bombardment of Gaza, Khan strongly condemned the use of banned munitions, which has led to the tragic loss of innocent lives, including children and women.

Khan firmly called for the suspension of all bilateral trade between India and Israel, asserting that such an action would align with the sentiments of millions of peace-loving Indians.

Highlighting the dire situation in Gaza, Khan pointed out that even the United Nations has expressed worry over the shortage of essential supplies, including food, medicines, and relief materials. He stressed the need for India to extend support to Gaza during this critical juncture, given the long-standing historical relationship between the two nations.
