Rahul Gandhi slams Modi govt during San Francisco event, says ‘PM bending before Sengol was drama’; BJP hits back

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Modi government on Tuesday (local time in US) during the ‘Mohabbat ki Dukaan’ event in San Francisco. While addressing the people at the event Gandhi spoke on the ongoing political conditions in India. “It is difficult to act politically in India,” said Gandhi slamming the Modi government in the centre over injustice to the opposition.

“The BJP is threatening people and misusing government agencies,” he alleged further during his address.

Gandhi while attacking PM Modi said that his bending before the ‘Sengol’ was a drama to deceive the masses in the nation. Modi has been deceiving the people of India through his stunts, said Gandhi. He also criticised the Parliament inauguration ceremony.

Shortly after Gandhi’s comments in the US, BJP leaders in India hit back at the Congress leader for his comments on PM Modi. Union Minister Anurag Thakur slammed Gandhi saying that he couldn’t digest the remark when Australian PM said ‘PM Modi is the Boss.’

“During his foreign visits, Rahul Gandhi insults India. PM Modi met almost 24 PMs and Presidents of the world & held over 50 meetings during his foreign visit recently and when the Australian PM said that ‘PM Modi is the Boss’, Rahul Gandhi could not digest this,” said Anurag Thakur.

Another BJP leader Chaluvadi Narayanswamy in an interview to Republic TV, said “Nobody is accepting Rahul Gandhi in India that’s why he is choosing international platform to speak against India. BJP needs to teach him a lesson.”

Gandhi also spoke about the Bharat Jodo Yatra at the event where he shared his experience to the people there. Speaking about the need of the yatra, Gandhi said, “The Bharat Jodo Yatra started because all the instruments that we needed to connect with the people were controlled by the BJP-RSS.”

Speaking on the significance and success of the yatra, Gandhi said,” The Bharat Jodo Yatra carried the spirit of affection, respect and humility. If one studies history, it can be seen that all spiritual leaders—including Guru Nanak Dev ji, Guru Basavanna ji, Narayana Guru ji—united the nation in a similar way.”

In another attack on the BJP government and their arrogance, Gandhi stated that few people in India are convinced that they know everything but on the other side they aren’t ready to listen to anyone else.

Gandhi in his speech said, “A few people in India are absolutely convinced that they know everything. They think they can explain history to historians, science to scientists and warfare to the army. But at the core of it is mediocrity. They’re not ready to listen!”

While praising the Indian diaspora in America for their success, Gandhi said, “I thank the Indian diaspora for holding up the Tricolour in America and showing Americans what it means to be an Indian. When Americans praise the contribution of Indians to their growth, it brings us all great pride.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in San Francisco on Tuesday for a three-city US tour during which he will interact with the Indian diaspora and meet American lawmakers. Gandhi is on a 10-day visit to the United States.

He was received at the airport by Indian Overseas Congress chairperson Sam Pitroda and other members of the IOC. Rahul Gandhi had to wait for two hours at the airport for the immigration clearance, reports said.

While he was waiting in the queue, several people who were travelling with him in the same flight clicked selfies with him. When people asked him why he was standing in the queue, Rahul Gandhi replied, “I am a common man. I like it. I am no longer an MP.”
