Stating that there is great deal of interest among Hungarians in India, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relation Peter Szijjarto expressed the need for a direct air connectivity between Budapest and Mumbai.

Direct air connectivity will reduce the travel time between Mumbai to Budapest from the present 10 hours to 7 hours. This, according to him, will provide a major impetus to business, travel and tourism between Hungary and India, he said.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister was speaking to State Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Wednesday (15th).

Peter Szijjarto told the Governor that Hungary was placed 28th in terms of economy when it joined the European Union. He said the country had catapulted to number one position in 10 years clocking the growth rate of 5.1 per cent last year. The Minister said, Hungary has adopted the policy of ‘Look to the East’ and acknowledged the role of India, among other Asian countries, in promoting investment and creating new jobs in Hungary.

Minister Peter Szijjarto informed the Governor that there has been a whopping 500 per cent increase in VISA applications processed by the Hungarian Consulate in Mumbai. He said Hungary has emerged as an attractive destination for the shooting of films by Bollywood.

Welcoming the Hungarian Foreign Minister to Maharashtra, Governor Koshyari assured him of his full cooperation in starting direct flights between Mumbai and Budapest. The Governor told the Minister that Maharashtra is an advanced State in terms of economy, culture and education. He said the State has many places of tourist attraction, which would be of great interest to tourists from Hungary.
