G20 Summit: Sports events organized by JKSC across J&K

The G20 Tourism Working Group meet in Srinagar was not just about sports events, it also included a display of the J&K’s vibrant local culture and cuisine. The #G20India delegates were welcomed by the LG Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Union Ministers Shri G Kishan Reddy Ji and Dr Jitendra Singh Ji, and other dignitaries. The display showcased the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir through traditional dances, music, and delicious local cuisine. The G20 delegates were impressed with the warm hospitality and the beautiful showcase of the region’s diverse culture. The event was a perfect example of how sports and culture can bring people together and promote unity and harmony.

The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) organized various sports events in different parts of J&K as part of the ongoing celebration of the G20 Tourism Working Group meet in Srinagar. Secretary, Youth Services and Sports Sarmad Hafeez and other senior officers welcomed the guests at the Astro Turf Football ground in Srinagar, where the festival was marked by the demonstration of fine skills by the trainees of the Sports Council from the games of Wushu, Yogasana, and Gymnastics, followed by Rugby and Football exhibition matches.

The Rugby match for women was played between teams of Srinagar XI and South Kashmir XI while in football, Kashmir Arrows were pitted against JKSC Football Academy. In Rajouri district, Volleyball and Boxing competitions were held in the Sports Stadium featuring a large number of participants and spectators. The district Samba too remained active with sports activities as students from Government High School Pali participated in the Wushu competition.

An athletic event was also organized at Girls Higher Secondary Birpur in the same district. Athletic events in the disciplines of Shot Put, Long Jump, Javelin throw, Discuss throw in U-14 and U-17 categories for both boys and girls were held at Government High School Surechak, Satwari, Jammu. Similarly, events were organized at Government High School Degwar Terwan, a border area of Poonch district. Meanwhile, Bakshi Stadium hosted one more G-20 Football match between Backcountry Bashers FC and Galaxy FC.

In the ongoing G-20 Cricket League, being played in TRC Cricket Academy Ground under flood lights, Old City CC and Young Iddgah CC went down to the wire. In the match between Gani Blues and Gani Reds at Gani Memorial stadium, Gani Blues defeated Gani Reds, and Sports Council Cricket Academy Blues triumphed over their opponents in the last match of the day at TRC Cricket Academy ground. The Secretariat XI emerged as the winner in one more late-night cricket match played at MA Stadium.
