India Metrological Department has issued orange alert for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg today. On Sunday, most parts of Mumbai saw moderate showers through the wee hours and into the late morning.
In the last 24 hours, South Mumbai received more rains as compared to the suburbs. The IMD’s Colaba observatory recorded around 67 mm rainfall while the Santacruz observatory recorded 13 mm rainfall.
As per weather reports, Mumbai and its surrounding areas will receive moderate to heavy rains in the next 24-36 hours after which it will decrease in intensity. However, very heavy rains are likely this weekend.
While it has been over a week since the southwest monsoon arrived in several parts of Maharashtra, including its capital city Mumbai, the statewide rainfall activity for a majority of this period has remained low.
