5.3 magnitude earthquake hits Mizoram, no report of loss of life

A moderate earthquake of 5.3 magnitude has jolted some parts of Mizoram in the wee hours of this morning. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the quake of 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred at 4.10 of this morning. The epicentre of the earthquake was at the 20-kilometre depth in 27 kilometres south-southwest of Champhai district.

The earthquake jolted areas of Tuipuiral in East Tuipui constituency. Local people said, an aftershock was experienced after half an hour. According to Police, there was no report of loss of life. However, many houses, buildings, church and community halls found cracked after the tremor.
