Mumbai: Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Yashomati Thakur on Thursday said that the Department of Women and Child Development will work in a planned manner for the safety and welfare of women and children by curbing the perverted attitude of the society towards them.

Yaahomati Thakur was speaking at an event jointly organised by the Department of Women and Child Development and UNICEF in Mumbai to honour the Covid-19 warriors for their outstanding work during the pandemic.

She said a lot of work needs to be done for the welfare of women and effective implementation of women’s policy is to be done in the near future.

She said that there is a need to change society’s view of abused children and women. She added that if we want to curb this attitude, we must speak out against it without remaining silent.

Praising the awardees, Thakur also said that the Anganwadi workers have done a great job in providing nutritious food to the mothers and children.

Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, I. A. Kundan said that legal protection of children as well as their mental and physical fitness is the primary goal of the department. She said adopting technology is essential for transparent and corruption free administration and planned management and the department has started working towards that.

She said the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS) module developed for the Juvenile Justice Board will be crucial for juvenile delinquents. She added that submission of juvenile delinquents to the Juvenile Justice Board, counseling, rehabilitation, necessary assistance, etc., sending applications to the police, filling in the details of the investigation by the investigating officers, etc. will now be done online making the process easier.

Kundan further said the department is also looking at strengthening the Village Child Protection Committees (VCPCs), which could be important in preventing child sexual abuse.
