Mumbai: Why is the union Woman and Child Development (W&CD) minister Smriti Irani avoiding the women wrestler’s issue. Would she have not raised it if it had happened in Amethi or Wayanad? questioned Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), National Spokesperson, Clyde Crasto.

Women wrestlers of our country have once again resumed their protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to seek justice for themselves for all the wrongdoings done against them by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and the former chief of WFI, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

They had stopped their protest earlier because they were promised justice by our union Sports minister Anurag Thakur after talks and the formation of a committee headed by former Olympian Mary Kom, but despite all this, no action has been taken by them to address this issue.

These wrestlers have been trying to lodge an FIR, but they are saying that even the Delhi police are not co-operating. Why is the union Woman and Child Development minister Smriti Irani avoiding this issue. Would she have not raised it if it had happened in Amethi or Wayanad?

It is sad to see this kind of treatment meted out to our country’s wrestlers. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led NDA government in the centre, and their ministers bask in the glory of our sportspersons when they win laurels, but now the same are betraying them in their hour of need.

Anurag Thakur and Smriti Irani must intervene immediately and ask the Delhi police which works under our union Home ministry, to take immediate action. If they cannot do this for people who have won laurels for our country, then what can common citizens expect?
