Massive Cabinet Expansion in West Bengal
The West Bengal government significantly expanded its administrative setup on Monday with the induction of 35 new ministers at a swearing-in ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Kolkata. The development increases the total strength of the Council of Ministers to 41 under the leadership of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office to the newly appointed ministers in the presence of senior government leaders and party functionaries.
Several BJP Legislators Join Ministry
Among those inducted into the cabinet were legislators and senior political leaders including Dipak Barman, Arjun Singh, Shankar Ghosh, Gauri Shankar Ghosh, Tapash Roy, Manoj Kumar Oraon, Jagannath Chattopadhyay, Ajoy Poddar, Swapan Dasgupta, Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee and Kalyan Chakraborti.
The expansion is being viewed as a major step aimed at distributing administrative responsibilities across departments and strengthening governance mechanisms in the state.
Arjun Singh Signals Readiness for New Role
Following his induction, BJP MLA Arjun Singh expressed confidence about taking on ministerial responsibilities and said he was prepared to work in accordance with the expectations of both the party and the people.
“I always take on new responsibilities and strive to fulfil them,” Singh said while speaking to reporters before the oath-taking ceremony.
He further added, “Whatever the government wants, the party wants, or the people want, we must rise to the occasion—that is our priority.”
Government Focuses on Administrative Strengthening
The cabinet expansion follows an announcement made by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari a day earlier regarding the induction of additional ministers into the state government.
The move is expected to provide greater administrative depth to the government as it seeks to accelerate policy implementation and improve coordination across departments.
In a message ahead of the ceremony, the Chief Minister stated that the expanded cabinet would work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people of West Bengal and strengthening governance across the state.
With 35 fresh faces joining the ministry, the latest reshuffle marks one of the biggest cabinet expansions in West Bengal’s recent political history.
