The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved a proposal to rename Jalalabad town in Shahjahanpur district as Parshurampuri. The decision reflects the town’s long-standing traditional association with Lord Parshuram and marks a significant change in its official identity.
According to the state government, the new name has been chosen in recognition of the belief that the region is linked to the birthplace of Lord Parshuram, one of the revered figures in Hindu tradition.
The renaming proposal received cabinet approval during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. Once the required administrative procedures are completed, the new name, Parshurampuri, will be reflected in official government records and documents.
The decision is part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s ongoing efforts to recognise places with historical, cultural and religious significance across the state.
