In a decisive move to combat rising cases of food adulteration, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has introduced stringent regulations aimed at ensuring food safety and accountability across the state. Under the new mandate, all food establishments, including hotels, dhabas, and restaurants, are required to prominently display nameplates detailing the name and address of their operators and proprietors.
During a high-level meeting with the Food Department on Tuesday, CM Yogi Adityanath stressed the importance of transparency in the food industry and the urgent need to curb the tampering of food products. “These acts of food adulteration with inedible or harmful substances are unacceptable and pose a significant threat to the health of the common man. Strict and immediate measures must be taken to prevent such incidents in Uttar Pradesh,” the Chief Minister stated.
The government’s directive follows disturbing reports of food items being adulterated with unsanitary substances, including human waste. Such incidents have raised public concerns about food safety and the quality of products sold in the market. CM Yogi condemned these incidents as “gruesome” and highlighted the necessity of enforcing stricter measures to protect public health.
One of the key changes introduced is the mandatory police verification of all employees working in food establishments to ensure a safer and more hygienic environment. Additionally, the government has instructed food businesses to install CCTV cameras throughout their premises, covering both customer seating areas and kitchen spaces. The footage will be stored and made available to local authorities if required, to ensure compliance with safety standards.
In line with the new regulations, food handlers at all establishments must now wear masks and gloves while preparing and serving food, to prevent contamination and uphold hygiene standards. This step is part of a broader push to elevate health and safety protocols across the state.
Yogi Adityanath also urged for amendments to the existing Food Safety Act to introduce more stringent measures. He emphasized the need for thorough investigations of all food establishments in the state to guarantee the safety and quality of food products.
“Police verification of every employee is essential, and necessary changes should be made to the existing food safety laws,” he stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety in Uttar Pradesh.
These new measures, which include enhanced transparency, improved hygiene protocols, and stricter enforcement, reflect the state’s determination to tackle the alarming issue of food adulteration and protect the health of its citizens.
