Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led central government over its treatment of farmers and rejected speculation surrounding MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s potential involvement in the INDIA alliance.
Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Uddhav dismissed questions about whether his cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray would attend the INDIA alliance meeting or meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying:
“Both the brothers are capable enough. We will do whatever we have to do. There is no need for any third person.”
His remarks indicated no current political coordination with Raj Thackeray, emphasizing internal clarity within his faction of the Shiv Sena regarding alliances.
Strong Words on Farmers’ Issue Uddhav Thackeray also expressed outrage over the government’s past handling of farmer protests, accusing the BJP of “remembering farmers only when it suits them politically.”
“For 2-3 years, the farmers who wanted to come to Delhi were stopped… Some of the poor farmers died. You did not remember the farmers then. Now you are remembering the farmers,” he said.
Referring to the 2020–2021 farmers’ protests, Thackeray criticized the heavy security response: “When farmers were on hunger strike, they were not allowed to come to Delhi. Guns were used on them. Walls were erected, and they were called Naxalites.”
He added that the “real face” of the government is being “exposed day by day.”
