Raigad building collapse: Police register FIR against three, rescue operation underway

Mumbai: A day after a five-storey building in Maharashtra’s Raigad district collapsed, the Mahad  police on Tuesday have registered an FIR against the accused builder, contractor and architecture under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with the tragic incident.

Tarique Garden was a ground plus four floored building which was not more than 10 years old structure. Around 40 families resided in the building. At 6.50 pm Monday, the top three floors collapsed. Some residents managed to escape before it came down. So far, 17 people have been rescued, while several are feared trapped in the debris.

Three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to the site of the accident late Monday, to join rescue operations conducted by the local police and fire brigade. A green corridor was created from Pune to Raigad to allow a swift passage for the NDRF teams.

Teams are equipped with the Gas Cutters, Ambulances, Generators, JCBs, Dumpers, Doctors, Poklen, Water, Biscuits and other essential items for relief work from Mangaon, Pen, Tala, Poladpur, Panvel, Roha, Alibag, Khopoli, Murud, Sudhagad are also deployed.

Meanwhile, Raigad Collector Nidhi Chaudhari on Monday night ordered the registration of an offence against the builder, the architect and the contractor. The district administration has identified Yunus Shaikh as the builder, and a Patel as the contractor.

Shrivardhan Sub-divisional officer (SDO) Amit Shedge has been appointed as Nodal Officer for Medical Camp.

Under the guidance of Guardian Minister Ms Aditi Tatkare, MP Sunil Tatkare, District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary, Chief Executive Officer Dr Kiran Patil, Superintendent of Police Anil Paraskar, the rescue operation was kept going till his news went to publish.

People who were rescued admitted to Raut Hospital, Nikam Hospital, Rathod Hospital, Bedekar Hospital, Vakratund hospital, Patel Hospital, Maali hospital, Yadav hospital, Ranade Hospital, Patankar Hospital, Chavan Hospital, Kamrekar hospital. Alto primary Health Center and Sub-District Hospital and Rural Hospital in Mahad City, Primary Health Center, Bhosekar Hospital Nandgaonkar Hospital, Mahamunkar Hospital, Dr Faizal Deshmukh Hospital. All hospitals are equipped with the anesthesiologist, orthopaedic, general surgeon, paediatrician for medical assistance.

With the coordination of Panvel Municipal Commissioner Sudhakar Deshmukh, Panvel SDO Dattatraya Navale, MGM Hospital Kalamboli, Belapur DY Patil Hospital and Jupiter Hospital are ready to treat the injured in case of any emergency.

Meanwhile, CM Uddhav Thackeray on yesterday evening spoke with Raigad collector Ms Chaudhari and Bharat Gogawale, Shiv Sena MLA from Mahad and took stock of the incident. Urban development minister Eknath Shinde reached Mahad today morning at around 6 am and visited the site.
