Trump Announces Israel’s Agreement to 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire, Urges Hamas to Accept Deal Before “It Gets Worse”

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, urging Hamas to accept the proposal before conditions in the region deteriorate further. The announcement comes ahead of Trump’s planned meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House next week, where peace negotiations and the ongoing Gaza conflict are expected to dominate the agenda.

In a statement released on his social media platform, Trump confirmed that American representatives held a “long and productive meeting” with Israeli officials earlier in the day, resulting in what he described as a final framework for a temporary ceasefire. The deal, he said, was shaped with the support of Qatar and Egypt, who will formally present the terms to Hamas leadership.

“Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60-day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the war,” Trump wrote. “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

Trump’s warning to Hamas was clear, signaling that the proposed deal may be the last diplomatic off-ramp before further escalation. While the former president has made similar declarations in the past, particularly before the expiration of a previous ceasefire in March, this new initiative appears to have more structure and international backing.

U.S. officials believe this moment could serve as a critical turning point in the war that has gripped Gaza for nearly 21 months. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 56,000 people, according to the Gaza Health Ministry — although the numbers do not distinguish between civilian and combatant casualties.

Despite the humanitarian toll, Hamas continues to resist Israeli advances, occasionally dealing significant blows to IDF forces. However, U.S. intelligence assessments indicate that Hamas’ operational capabilities have been heavily degraded, with much of its centralized leadership structure damaged through sustained Israeli strikes.

Trump’s ceasefire initiative also comes in the aftermath of heavy joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure, conducted over a 12-day period last month. Iran, a principal backer of Hamas, is believed to have suffered serious setbacks, further isolating the militant group diplomatically and militarily.
