TMC collected Rs 58000 as fine from citizens commuting in a public place without a mask

Nearly 85.3 percent recovery has been recorded in the city while 3485 patients are currently under treatment. So far, 889 patients have died due to coronavirus.

Thane: In an apparent crackdown on people who are refusing to obey precautionary measures despite being told to, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has penalized a total of 116 citizens and collected fines of Rs 58,000 who were commuting in a public place without wearing a mask.

Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma had directed every ward officer to implement a fine of Rs 500 for those citizens who are commuting without wearing a mask on Friday. The novel coronavirus has created havoc in the country and people went into a state of panic. Corona positive cases are increasing by the day and it is important to be cautious at every step. 

Despite many efforts by TMC officials and police officials to ensure preventive measures in public, people have been violating guidelines. People have not been wearing a mask, said an official of TMC.

The civic official disclosed that so far fines have been collected from various civic wards which include – Rs 14000 from Majiwada-Manpada, Rs 5500 from Vartak Nagar, Rs 4500 from Lokmanya Nagar, Rs 3500 from Wagale Estate, Rs 16500 from Naupada-Kopari, Rs 4000 from Mumbra, Rs 4000 from Kalwa, Rs 6000 from Diva.

In TMC municipal limits the number of COVID-19 positive patients has gone up to 25477. About 85.3 percent recovery has been recorded in the city while 3485 patients are currently under treatment. So far, 889 patients lost their lives during a battle with coronavirus disease. On Saturday, taking the total number of corona positive cases 388, informed the civil health official from TMC.-By Narendra Gupta
