Srinagar: Handwara girl Mehreen Banday out-shined everybody at the 5th International Karate Championship held at Vizag, Swarna Bharathi Indoor AC Stadium by winning gold medal.
Mehreen Banday credited her success to her parents, especially her mother who supported her at every step. She also expressed gratitude to coach Faisal Nazir who trained her.
Eighteen-year-old Mehreen is studying in 12th Class and has participated in many national championships representing herself from Jammu & Kashmir. Recently Mehreen took part in the International Karate Championship at Vizag where she won a Gold Medal. Mehreen till today had won 4 gold medals, one silver medal and one international gold medal.
“I want to take part in the Olympics to make India proud but unfortunately I have not been given any financial assistance from the Government and all my expenses are borne by my parents”, she said.
