Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday spoke about the steps his government has taken to counter coronavirus in India in Rajya Sabha. Soon after that a small window for discussion was open and inputs were asked from other MPs. While Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad suggested that there should be a clear list of dos and don’ts, Trinamool MP Derek O Brien was stopped when he wanted to raise the topic of people killed in New Delhi without being infected by the coronavirus. “We will only listen to suggestions regarding coronavirus,” Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu said.
NCP MP Vandana Chavan raised the issue of misinformation being spread of coronavirus. “Some leaders are saying how gaumutra and cow dung cakes can cure coronavirus. The government must end such campaigns,” the MP said. “Why? That’s up to people to believe. Don’t create any controversy in the Rajya Sabha,” Naidu said.
Suman Haripriya, a BJP MLA of Assam, stirred controversy as she said that gaumutra and gobar (cow dung) can be used to cure coronavirus. “We all know that cow dung is very helpful. Likewise, when cow urine is sprayed, it purifies an area,” the MLA said.-Inputs from Indi.com
