Tamil Nadu: Sessions Court Judge Visits Hospital to Decide on Remanding Minister Senthil Balaji

Madras Principal Sessions Judge S Alli on Wednesday visited Omanturar multi specialty hospital to take a call on remanding Tamil Nadu Electricity, Prohibition and Excise Minister V Senthil Balaji. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sought the remand of the minister who is undergoing treatment there. A video of the same has surfaced on social media. Senior counsel NR Elango is to defend the minister before principal Judge Alli.

The ED on Wednesday arrested Senthil Balaji under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), official sources said, making him the first member in the M K Stalin-led Cabinet to face such an action from a central probe agency.

Balaji was arrested after a long session of questioning, even as the 47-year-old minister was admitted to a city government hospital after he complained of uneasiness. He underwent a coronary angiogram and was advised bypass surgery at the “earliest”.
