The political standoff between the rival Shiv Sena camps took a sharper turn on Thursday after senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut approached Mumbai Police, demanding action over alleged threatening remarks attributed to newly inducted Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Dina Patil.
The latest controversy comes days after six Members of Parliament left the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction and aligned themselves with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s camp, a move that has triggered strong reactions from party workers and supporters across Maharashtra.
Political Temperatures Rise After Defections
The departure of several MPs has intensified tensions within the Shiv Sena. Supporters of both groups reportedly gathered in large numbers in parts of Mumbai, reflecting the growing political divide between the two factions.
Raut claimed that the recent defections had sparked resentment among grassroots workers and voters, leading to protests against some of the leaders who changed allegiance.
Raut Demands Investigation Into Alleged Remarks
In his communication to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Raut alleged that Sanjay Dina Patil had made statements that could threaten the safety of political workers participating in demonstrations.
He urged authorities to examine the matter thoroughly and determine whether the alleged comments warranted legal action. The Shiv Sena UBT leader described the remarks as serious and called for an immediate inquiry.
Call for Strong Security Measures
Raut also requested heightened vigilance from law enforcement agencies, arguing that any threats linked to political activities should be treated with utmost seriousness. He urged officials to ensure that democratic protests remain peaceful and that the safety of political workers is protected.
The leader further stated that authorities should verify all allegations and take appropriate action if any evidence of wrongdoing emerges during the investigation.
Political Battle Intensifies in Maharashtra
The dispute highlights the continuing struggle between the Thackeray and Shinde factions following the major realignment within the Shiv Sena. With both sides actively mobilising supporters, the political atmosphere in Maharashtra remains highly charged.
As the controversy unfolds, attention is now focused on whether police authorities will initiate a formal inquiry into the allegations and what impact the latest developments could have on the state’s political landscape.
