Mumbai: Kapil Sharma’s popular eatery, Kap’s Cafe, in Surrey, Canada, has been struck by gunfire for the second time in just one month. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, August 7, comes after a similar attack on July 8. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility once again, this time openly linking the assaults to Sharma’s public association with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
According to a leaked audio clip cited by India Today, Bishnoi gang member Harry Boxer alleged that the attacks were triggered because Kapil Sharma invited Salman Khan to his Netflix show’s inauguration. “The first and now second firing at Kapil Sharma’s restaurant happened because he had invited Salman Khan… If anyone works with Salman, whether a small-time actor or a small-time director, we will not spare anyone. We will kill them. We will go to any extent necessary,” Boxer reportedly warned.
The gang’s hostility towards Salman Khan is rooted in the long-standing tension following the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, in which Salman is the main accused. Bishnoi, who belongs to a community that considers the blackbuck sacred, has repeatedly targeted the actor in threats over the years.
The second season of The Great Indian Kapil Show premiered on Netflix on June 21, with Salman Khan as its first guest. The Bishnoi gang appears to have viewed this public appearance as a provocation, escalating their threats not just toward Salman but also toward those collaborating with him.
The first shooting at Kap’s Cafe on July 8 involved unidentified assailants firing multiple rounds at the establishment before fleeing. After police investigation and temporary closure, the restaurant reopened, only to face a fresh attack on Thursday. Reports indicate that the latest assault left at least six bullet holes in the cafe’s windows. CCTV footage from the scene shows an armed assailant repeatedly firing outside the premises before escaping.
A separate social media post, allegedly from Goldy Dhillon — identified as an associate of the Bishnoi gang — also surfaced. The post read: “JAI SHRI RAM, Satshriakal… Today’s firing at Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Cafe in Surrey is our responsibility. We had called him but he didn’t answer, so we had to act. If he doesn’t answer next time, the next action will take place in Mumbai soon.”
Local law enforcement has intensified security measures around the area and is working with Canadian federal agencies to investigate the gang’s cross-border criminal activity.
